The Doctor takes Rose back in time to see her dad right before his accident. As Rose was only a couple months old when he was hit by a car, only she doesn't want him to have to pass away with no one around.
When they arrive at the scene where it happens, Rose gets nervous and freezes in place when she sees it happen. The Doctor gives her a second chance to go to her Father's side, though because their previous self's are already there, the Doctor tells her to wait until they leave, to keep balance.
Only this time Rose jumps ahead to rescue her father from the approaching car, causing their previous selves to see her, interrupting the time balance.
Soon the Doctor notices the impact it has when gargoyle-type creatures picking up people and disappearing. To fix it he leaves Rose to find the Tardis, only when he opens it he finds an empty police box. He goes back to find Rose in front of a church with her mother and father and other people.
He gathers them all inside and attempts to figure away out of the mess, that doesn't include Rose losing her father again.
When Rose later goes to hug the Doctor, as he had been upset with her, they find the Tardis key in his jacket overly hot. The Doctor realizes that the key is still connected to the Tardis, and attempts to bring it back into their timeline.
Though when Rose's Father gets into a disagreement with Rose's mother about the older Rose, her father hands younger Rose to older Rose. The Doctor sees this and takes young Rose, but not soon enough for older Rose and younger Rose to come into contact causing a further disruption in time. Allowing a gargoyle creature to appear in the church.
The Doctor has all of them get behind him believing that because he is 900 years old that the creature won't be able to pass through him. Though the creature removes the Doctor and then flies into the Tardis causing the key to fall out and the Tardis to disappear.
Rose's Father not knowing what to do to save his daughter and the others, looks out the window and notices the same car that Rose saved him from, now appearing turning a corner and disappearing, over and over.
He figures out what he needs to do, prepares himself, talks to Rose and then takes off towards the car. After its over, and Rose is standing outside the church in shock, the Doctor comes up behind her and stands next to her, and tells her to go to her dad.
